CERISEA on the road: highlights of 2025 attendance to events

Throughout 2025, CERISEA project partners took part in several industrial events and international conferences across Europe. These moments provided opportunities to share the launch of the CBE Flagship project, present the objectives and engage with stakeholders of the bio-based industry.

BIOKET Bioeconomy Key Enabling Technologies platform | March 11-13, 2025 | Brussels

The international conference on Bioeconomy Key Enabling Technologies platform (BIOKET) was the opportunity to officially announce the launch of CERISEA project during https://bioket.tech/a dedicated presentation of Project Coordinator Daniel Zante, entitled “5HMF : When a sleeping giant wakes up ».

BIOKET is an annual international conference organised by Bioeconomy For Change, the bioeconomy cluster partner of the CERISEA project for communication and dissemination. This conference serves as a leading platform for Key Enabling Technologies and innovations applied to biomass valorisation, promoting high added-value products across multiple economic sectors through sustainable and cutting-edge technologies.

“Renewable Materials Conference 2026” | September 2224, 2025 | Siegbur (Germany)

MICHELIN ResiCare had the honour of speaking at the 2025 Renewable Materials Conference hosted by nova-Institut GmbH and the Renewable Carbon Initiative.
Virginie Roux, representing ResiCare, shared the vision for renewable carbon chemistry to phase out fossil carbon in chemicals and resins.
We observed strong interest in bio-based materials and ingredients, particularly in HMF and its multiple applications.

World Bio Market | June 10-11, 2025 | The Hague (The Netherlands)

At World Bio Markets 2025, Aymeric Denoeud (Chief Revenue Officer at Michelin Resicare) showed how the company is unlocking 5-HMF potential on both fronts: supply and demand. To finally solve the chicken-or-egg dilemma.
He also shared the effort both on the supply and demand sidses with the announce of the construction of the first industrial-scale 5-HMF demonstrator in Roussillon (France). A major step to secure local, reliable, and sustainable production through the launch of Cerisea Project. During this talk in The Hague, we delivered one clear message: no market shift happens without collective, simultaneous action.

Official launch of the construction ceremony | 24th October 2025 | Roussillon (France)

On 24 October 2025, the CERISEA project reached a key milestone with the start of construction of its industrial-scale 5-HMF production plant in Roussillon, France. The launch of this new construction phase took place in the presence of local authorities, construction partners and institutional representatives.

The new facility will produce 3,000 tonnes of 5-HMF per year, making it the largest production site in the world and creating around 30 direct jobs.
The construction represents over 220,000 hours of work, carried out with an unwavering commitment to safety.

Pitch Perfect and Boost the bioeconomy | November 24-25, 2025 | Brussels (Belgium)

Cerisea Project has been showcased at the “Pitch Perfect & Boost the European Bioeconomy” event organised by Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant, where Bioeconomy For Change proudly represented its involvement in several European projects, including CERISEA, at their dedicated booth.
This major networking event brings together innovators, industry leaders, researchers, and EU stakeholders to accelerate the growth of the European bioeconomy. Through pitches, booths, and matchmaking sessions, participants explore new opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and value-chain development.
A great opportunity to highlight CERISEA’s ambition and to connect with the European bioeconomy community!

Looking ahead 2026: First stop, BIOKET 2026 !

We are pleased to announce that Michelin Resicare Team will take part in the new edition of BIOKET during the opening plenary : MEP will share insights on 5-HMF, a key bio-based chemical building block, and discuss its potential applications across various industrial sectors. This contribution will highlight the role of innovative bio-based chemicals in enabling more sustainable materials and supporting the transition toward a stronger European bioeconomy.

The project will also be highlighted in the booth area.

You can still join us at BIOKET 2026 to explore the potential of 5-HMF as a bio-based chemical building block and connect with the bio-based community!

Many more opportunities and events will come in the forthcoming months to showcase the project ambition and progress, stay tuned on our Linkedin page.

Construction of CERISEA plant: The work has begun

On 24 October 2025, the CERISEA project reached a key milestone with the start of construction of its industrial-scale 5-HMF production plant in Roussillon, France. The launch of this new construction phase took place in the presence of local authorities, construction partners and institutional representatives.

Led by Michelin ResiCare, CERISEA aims to overcome the remaining technical and industrial challenges linked to the large-scale production of bio-based 5-HMF, a strategic platform molecule derived from fructose.

Once operational, the plant will be capable of producing up to 3,000 tonnes of 5-HMF per year, making it Europe’s first industrial facility of its kind at this scale. The project will enable the emergence of the first European value chain for 5-HMF, opening the door to new sustainable applications in resins, polymers, crop science and specialty chemicals.

Supported by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) and ADEME, CERISEA contributes to Europe’s ambition to strengthen its bioeconomy, reduce dependence on fossil-based materials and accelerate the scale-up of innovative bio-based technologies.

The start of construction also received strong visibility across European innovation and bioeconomy networks. Communications shared by CERISEA partners, Michelin ResiCare and CBE JU generated more than 440 reactions and 34 reposts on LinkedIn, highlighting the strong interest and support for the project.

As construction progresses, CERISEA continues to move forward, paving the way for the safe, sustainable and industrial-scale production of bio-based 5-HMF in Europe.
